Inchirourke
(Dr. Willie Nolan) The only ancient historical information we found on Inchirourke belongs to the early fourteenth century. Around 1300 Inchirourke, Fennor and Buolick were owned by a John de Fresingfeld, a knight and an officer of the court. In 1312 Edmond Butler secured the Manor of Inchirourke with all the tenements de Fresingfeld held in Fennor, also in the grant were the vills (villages) of Grene, Moyarf and Begeston in the neighbouring parish of Tubbrid-Britain. The next year Thomas Butler, later Lord of Dunboyne, granted Inchirourke to Edmond's son and his heirs. Inchirourke and other holdings were taken into the King's hands when Edmond Butler was outlawed in County Kildare. In 1374 the royal Eschator was ordered to give the holdings to one Fulk Fitzpatrick de la Freign, who was now married to Butler's ex-wife Catherine and thus was able to claim the properties. The Civil Survey has no mention of a castle in Inchirourke though the last remants of one exists. The Survey estimated the area of the townsland was 500 acres of which 20% was 'red bog'. The title-holder was Pierce Butler of Fennor, an 'Irish papist'. Again the townsland is described as been laid waste, in the 1650's.
